Human grouping is the practice of categorizing people by shared characteristics. Throughout history, people have been grouped, and people have placed themselves into groups  Groups give us a sense of social identity: a sense of belonging – dividing the world into “them” and “Us”.  In some cases, this tendency to group has a positive effect. However, at times, grouping leads to prejudices and stereotyping – making it difficult to communicate. It could be argued that some forms of grouping have become only a weakness – a distraction from what truly matters. Not only between our own species, but we also tend to see ourselves as more and more separate from nature and all its diverse, crucial inhabitants. We, therefore, invite you to reflect on the notion of ‘Us’.

How do you define ‘Us’?

The sum of all your thoughts and opinions may bring us closer to defining who we are and representing the beauty of the diversity we are immersed in

the exhibition:

Us challenged people to think about what it means to be Us, living together and celebrating diversity. The pattern derives from a circle and a square. These two-dimensional shapes represent characteristic ends of a spectrum: rich & poor, young & old, male & female, etc. The different color gradations represent an array of emotions and characters. Each crossover - a combination of colors and a unique location in the space - represents a unique person. Together, they symbolize ‘Us’.
